Yes there is an actual Dillon Grant. He is my real life boyfriend David’s avatar. When David left his life in Michigan to be with me, his online time was already dwindling. While all of us play these online games for various reasons, like many..he was in search for his soul mate. I on the other hand, was in a rl relationship and had no intention on meeting anyone romantically in any game. After being friends online for a few years our friendship built into a bond and we fell in love. I have to admit I had a crush on him long before that, we both were in relationships the day we met in The Sims Online. I remember talking to him via instant message, about life, about relationships and about each other. He told me he worked as a trucker, which made alot of sense because I would see him online, then he would be gone for a week or two, then a happy glow would be about my face as I saw him pop online again. He told me about the life as a trucker, how much he didn’t like being away from home so long, and how lonely life is on the road. And when I felt our friendship was a solid bond that I trusted, before he left for another 3 week run, I told him that I could call him and keep him company sometimes. I also felt worried because the night before he was supposed to leave, he stayed up all the way til morning to be with me ingame. So I wanted to make sure he was safe too. He gave me his number, and I said I would call him sometime. The very next day I called him…but he was on the road in Chicago and he said that was a hard city to drive a big truck and talk on the phone so he would call me back. He waited until he reached a truck stop and called me from there. The first thing I notice was the accent. And surprisingly soft spoken. He had a very infectious laugh and it was like we had spoken to each other for a long time..very comfortable, not in the least awkward. He was telling me about his ride into Chicago as I laid in my bed listening, smiling. I was turned on by his voice..I started to *ahem* and began to softly hmmm, he asked if I was doing what he thought I was doing and after not answering he began to whisper sweet nothings into my ear. And blah yes it was over the phone but it was really nice and I felt good..and our bond was closer than ever. From then there was not one day we wouldn’t talk on the phone. Our phone bill was insane. He started asking me to come to Michigan, move out there and I said hellllllll no. I wasn’t ready for all that yet and had way too much I had to resolve in Hawaii first. But in August of 2004, the biggest opportunity and really a miracle, a good friend of mine won a trip to California and she called me to see if I would be able to come with her, and two other friends. I said yes, and David also planned on going to California to meet me in person for the first time. This would be the moment for me, as wonderful the relationship was online, and over the phone..it was how well we were together in person that would be the decider for me. And the moment we saw each other and hugged..I knew.
After we met, and went back to our own states, we were on the phone talking to each other rather than on the computer playing together. I was still active on tso, he started playing another game called Eveonline. Kitt told me about Secondlife and I asked if he wanted to try it. I made his character, named him… and we both did go online together to see our really good friend after so long. We both had a hard time getting used to functioning on that game so after a week or so, he went back to Eveonline and I went back to TSO.
So for those who see me partnered in Secondlife, it is true. He is rarely ever in game, and I’m really ok with that. And for those who have seen a playful, flirtaticious Adriane? He knows how I am and is ok with it. It is the same as it’s always been for me playing online games.. I am not looking for a relationship, I’ve met my soul mate. But I also have met a few more in friendship…soul mates…familiar souls, which is what keeps me there.
I think I will demote him from being my uncle. I like him much better as a friend.
